Suriyanur. A. Chandran of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the Kulithalai constituency with a margin of 579 votes. He garnered 68138 votes, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate G. Balasubramani came second with 67559 votes.Kulithalai Assembly constituency, located in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency. According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency is predominantly rural, with about 79.92 per cent of the population living in rural areas and 20.08 per cent in urban areas. Scheduled Castes account for 22.5 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute about 0.06 per cent.

For the 2026 elections, the participating candidates are S. A. Chandiran (DMK), S. Karunakaran (AIADMK), Nanmaran (NTK), and G. Balasubramani (TVK).In the 2021 Assembly election, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with R Manickam securing 1,00,829 votes, or 51.07 per cent of the vote share. He defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate NR Chandrasekar, who received 77,289 votes. The AIADMK secured 39.14 per cent of the vote, while the Naam Tamilar Katchi polled 5.83 per cent.
Historically, the constituency has largely seen contests between the DMK and the AIADMK. The DMK won the seat in 2006 with R. Manickam, while the AIADMK secured victory in 2011 with A. Pappasundaram. The DMK regained the constituency in 2016 with E. Ramar and retained it in the 2021 Assembly election with R. Manickam. The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by R. Manickam of the DMK, while the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by DMK’s Arun Nehru.
