Mangalokot election results 2026: BJP’s Shishir Ghosh defeats TMC’s Apurba Chowdhury in West Bengal

In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election for Mangalokot (272), Shishir Ghosh of the Bharatiya Janata Party won with 1,04,020 votes, defeating All India Trinamool Congress candidate Apurba Chowdhury, who polled 91,297 votes. The BJP secured victory by a margin of 12,723 votes in the constituency. CPI(M)’s Miraj Alam Sekh finished third with 12,698 votes, while Congress and other smaller parties remained far behind. NOTA recorded 3,423 votes.Mangalkot (constituency no. 272) is located in Purba Bardhaman district and falls under the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency is predominantly rural and is known as an agricultural belt within the Bardhaman region. It borders Birbhum district, giving it a geographic and cultural overlap with the Rarh Bengal belt. Local livelihoods depend heavily on paddy cultivation, along with potato and vegetables.In 2021, TMC's Apurba Chowdhury (Achal) won the seat by a margin of over 22,000 votes, defeating BJP's Rana Pratap Goswami. In 2016, the seat was held by TMC's Siddiqullah Chowdhury, a prominent Muslim leader associated with Pirzada groups. Apurba Chowdhury continues to represent the TMC in 2026. The constituency's political landscape has been shaped by the influence of Muslim religious leaders and community networks, which have historically backed the TMC. BJP's Shishir Ghosh and Congress's Jagadish Dutta are the challengers in 2026. The TMC's strong majority in 2021 suggests a comfortable defence, though BJP has been working to expand its base in the rural Bardhaman-Birbhum belt.
