CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINGAR: A 17-year-old boy allegedly murdered his 26-year-old friend in Jalna district after the latter repeatedly sent messages to the minor's mother and allegedly pressured her to enter into a relationship, the police said on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Anil Waghmare (26), a resident of Siraswadi village in Jalna taluka. The police said the accused, a Class XII student who recently appeared for his Board examinations, attacked the 26-year-old with a sharp weapon while he was asleep in a farm between midnight on Friday and early hours of Saturday.
Jalna superintendent of police Ajaymumar Bansal said (Waghmare) and the minor were close friends and routinely slept in a farm along with other friends during the night. However, on Friday, the accused stayed back at home, where he allegedly saw messages sent by Waghmare on his mother's cellphone. Police said the messages indicated that (Waghmare) was making advances towards the woman and insisting on a relationship.
"Angered after reading the messages, the boy went to the farm sometime around midnight and attacked (Waghmare) while he was asleep, inflicting multiple stab wounds," said additional SP Ayush Nopany.
On receiving information about the incident, taluka inspector Santosh Sable visited the spot along with his team and conducted a spot panchnama. The victim was shifted to the district general hospital, where doctors declared him dead
Police detained the minor and produced him before child welfare committee, which sent him to correctional home.
