4 held with 28.1 kg heroin, Rs 9.5 lakh drug money in Ferozepur

Ferozepur: Punjab Police's counter intelligence wing busted an alleged cross-border drug smuggling module in Ferozepur district and arrested four persons with 28.1 kg heroin and Rs 9.5 lakh in suspected drug money.The accused — Bagicha Singh and Bhupinder of Boghiwala village, Sajan Singh of Aarayian Wala, and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku of Lakha Singh Wala — were arrested in Guru Har Sahai. Police also impounded a Hyundai Creta SUV allegedly being used for smuggling narcotics.A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at the SSOC police station in Fazilka.Ferozepur counter intelligence AIG Gursewak Singh said police received inputs that the accused were on their way to deliver a heroin consignment. Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted them and seized the contraband, which officials claimed was worth around Rs 142 crore in the international market.Police said the accused were allegedly working for handlers linked to cross-border narcotics smuggling. Further investigations were underway to establish forward and backward linkages of the network, with more arrests and seizures likely.
