CHENNAI: Former deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin said more than 30 major incidents, including sexual assaults, ganja smuggling, attacks by rowdies, alleged excesses by ruling party functionaries and the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, had raised serious questions over the state’s law and order situation.Referring to the Coimbatore incident that triggered nationwide outrage, Udhayanidhi said the “brutal crime had sent shockwaves across India" and led to overnight protests by residents in the city demanding justice for the victim.“The voice seeking real justice in this murder case is echoing from all sides. Coimbatore people are staging protests through the night condemning this cruel act,” he said.Demanding swift action against the accused, he said the “real culprits” behind the murder should be given severe punishment at the earliest. He also expressed condolences to the girl’s parents and said the party would stand by the family during the difficult period.Stating that the new govt had witnessed more than 30 major incidents within 12 days of assuming office, Udhayanidhi urged chief minister Joseph Vijay to accord top priority to law and order to ensure such incidents did not recur.
