Chennai: AMMK general secretary
T T V Dhinakaran on Saturday launched a scathing attack on chief minister C Joseph Vijay, asking if criminals were dominating TVK or if arrogance of power was driving up widespread violence across the state.
Taking to social media, Dhinakaran listed four major criminal incidents from the past week that allegedly involved TVK functionaries. They include sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Madurai, extortion threats to brick kiln owners in Vellore, assault of a labourer in Tambaram, and the murder of an elderly woman for her jewellery in Chengalpet.
“Are all those involved in such heinous crimes part of TVK? Or are the cadres acting out of audacity because they belong to the ruling party? TVK leader and CM Joseph Vijay must explain this,” Dhinakaran said, tagging CM’s official X handle.
In another post, the AMMK leader condemned alleged police excesses against beneficiaries of the new TN Urban Habitat tenements in Kotturpuram in Chennai. “The govt is deploying police to suppress and arrest beneficiaries instead of sending the minister concerned and local MLA to address their grievances. This is unacceptable,” Dhinakaran said, demanding that TVK govt immediately hand over the tenements to families.
Slamming govt’s heavy-handedness, Dhinakaran termed the crackdown a “dictatorial approach”.
