New Delhi: LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu has notified the establishment of Delhi’s first all-women police station.
A cell dealing with crime against women and located within the Subzi Mandi Police Station complex has been designated as the all-women police station covering North district. More such stations may be created in the future, sources said.
TOI reported on April 6 that
Delhi Police was considering the launch of such a station.
According to LG’s notification, the police station will be responsible for conducting probes, registering cases and carrying out investigations into offences against women. It will handle a broad spectrum of crimes, including sexual offences like rape, molestation, stalking and voyeurism, as well as acid attacks, human trafficking, dowry-related harassment, domestic violence, matrimonial disputes and dowry deaths.
Police sources said the station will be staffed by 50 to 60 personnel, including a handful of male officers. “The men will provide assistance when required, particularly during raids and other field operations,” the sources said.
It will be headed by a station house officer (SHO) and have an additional SHO and duty officers. Personnel will be deployed across various units, including the record branch,
malkhana, reader section, CCTNS cell, naib court and lock-up.
In addition, it will have a dedicated 24x7 emergency response team to tackle urgent incidents involving women.
Officers said the move is aimed at providing a more accessible, sensitive and victim-friendly environment for city women seeking police assistance.
The police station will exercise its jurisdiction across the entire North district. In case of any future relocation, new premises will be notified by the authorities.
Sources said that based on the 2025 crime data related to offences against women, such all-women police stations have been categorised as heavy (dealing with 700 to 1,000 FIRs), medium (500 to 699) and light (below 500). “The first will have around 81 staff, the second 67 and the last one 50 to 60,” the source said.
