Congress demands daily water testing amid contamination allegations
Times News NetworkIndore: A day after Congress report alleged that 98% water samples collected by them from 29 wards failed in the lab test, the party on Saturday demanded Indore Municipal Corporation to collect water samples from at least 200 locations daily, conduct laboratory testing, and publish results transparently.IMC leader of the opposition Chintu Chouksey rejected Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav’s statement that the opposition was defaming the city, citing contamination tragedy in Bhagirathpura.“Congress independently collected and tested water samples across 29 municipal wards. Following the public release of these findings by MPCC chief Jitu Patwari, the opposition demanded that IMC supply clean drinking water by collecting samples from at least 200 locations, testing them in lab and publishing the report on daily basis” Chouksey said.To address declining groundwater tables, IMC on Saturday announced a new sub-surface water recharge project executed with technical and financial assistance from IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Urban Affairs. The project involves constructing scientific rainwater harvesting and shallow aquifer recharge systems at 10 select locations across the city.Following lithological and hydrological surveys conducted between January and April, Nehru Stadium was selected as the model site. The stadium will capture rainwater across 5,315 square meters to recharge an estimated 51 cubic meters of water daily into the local water table.
