Kannur: Additional district magistrate in-charge K Balagopal on Saturday convened an all-party peace meeting in the wake of post-poll violence that erupted in Payyannur assembly constituency. It was decided in the meeting to take strict action to curb further untoward incidents.
As part of the decision, police would register cases in all poll-related violence incidents reported in the area. Statements or remarks defaming political leaders or candidates should not be made by anyone. To maintain a peaceful atmosphere, it was also decided to increase police patrolling in the area. Night patrolling would be intensified and vehicles fitted with cameras would be deployed for this. In addition, CCTV cameras would also be installed in sensitive areas for round-the-clock monitoring.
The meeting held at Payyannur taluk conference hall was attended by police officers, revenue officials and representatives of various political parties.
