Maharashtra Covid-19 lockdown news: State reports 51,751 new Covid cases, 258 deaths

Maharashtra on Sunday crossed the one crore-mark in Covid-19 vaccination, touching 1,00,38,421 doses, the highest by any state. The state’s target population is an estimated three crore. It means 5 crore doses are yet to be given (two per person). Maharashtra recorded its worst-ever single-day infections at 63,294 taking its total tally of cases to 34.07 lakh. It also reported 349 deaths, the fifth straight day when fatalities have crossed 300. A total of 12,377 cases were reported on Sunday in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), taking the tally to 6,48,393. A central team that visited Pune has strongly stated that full lockdown is not necessary for the city and that the current restrictions, along with adherence to Covid protocols by the general population, were sufficient measures.
