Vadodara: The city crime branch has detected a broad daylight burglary worth Rs 4.94 lakh at the residence of a retired school principal in Nadiad, arresting one accused with part of the stolen valuables.
Acting on a tip-off, sleuths tracked history-sheeter Nihal Barot, a resident of Tandalja, who was allegedly trying to sell stolen jewellery. He was intercepted in Tandalja, and a search of his scooter led to the recovery of silver ornaments and articles worth Rs 1.23 lakh, along with Rs 1 lakh in cash.
Police also found a gold finance company slip and two mobile phones in his possession. Barot and the seized items were later handed over to Nadiad police.
Officials said Barot has been involved in multiple offences since 2011 in Vadodara city and district, with most cases related to theft and burglary.
