Visakhapatnam: RTC authorities conducted a route survey to arrange transport facilities for travellers to the newly constructed Bhogapuram Airport. They planned eight AC buses from Kurmannapalem, near the Steel Plant, to Bhogapuram and also planned to arrange AC lounges for the air travellers at selected places on the national highway.
The authorities, on the instructions of the district collector Abhishkt Kishore and GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg, the RTC regional manager B Appala Naidu, GVMC city planner Dhanujay Reddy and others conducted the survey.
The newly constructed Bhogapuram Airport would be commissioned in the first week of July, and flight operations would commence in the second week. To create travelling facilities for air travellers from the city to Bhogapuram, at a distance of over 50 km, the authorities estimated the number of travellers from the possible areas in the city. They planned to construct separate air-conditioned lounges for air travellers on NH-16, and selected Kurmannapalem, Gajuwaka, NAD, Maddilapalem, Madhurawada and Tagarapuvalasa for the AC lounges.
With better facilities, air-conditioned buses will come to the city by the end of June. Appala Naidu said that all eight buses are electric buses and a charging station would be arranged at Bhogapuram airport for them temporarily. Based on the demand of the air travellers, the number of routes and buses would be increased, he said.
