Chandigarh: In a rare gesture, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini surprised the aspirants undergoing the physical and medical test (PMT) for recruitment into the Haryana Police at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in
Panchkula.
The candidates, as well as their kin, were surprised when Saini and his staff approached them early Sunday morning.
Notably, local administration and police personnel were also unaware of the CM's visit, and they hurried to the spot only after his arrival. The officials and other staff of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) – the recruitment agency – also rushed to Saini as he was interacting with the candidates.
It was a first-of-its-kind moment, especially during police enrolment, for a CM to visit the recruitment site to get a first-hand account of the job process. Nearly 3,000 aspirants participate daily in the recruitment drive.
Saini not only enquired about the arrangements from the candidates but also interacted with their parents and asked whether they were approached by touts. The CM assured them of transparency and said the govt was committed to a smooth and candidate-friendly recruitment process.
During the 2016 police recruitment tests, the Haryana govt had to face embarrassment when six aspirants had died after consuming performance-enhancing drugs for the PMT.
Extending best wishes to the aspirants, Saini said the govt had made extensive arrangements to ensure that candidates and their attendants do not face inconvenience during the recruitment process. He emphasised that transparency and efficiency remained the top priorities of the state govt in police recruitment.
The CM also sought feedback from candidates regarding the arrangements at the venue. Many candidates expressed satisfaction over the facilities and appreciated Saini's visit and encouragement. Several aspirants were also seen taking selfies with the CM.
To facilitate candidates and their attendants, the administration has established a dedicated rest area with adequate seating arrangements at the stadium entrance. A baggage deposit facility has also been set up for their convenience.
Panchkula deputy commissioner Satpal Sharma and deputy commissioner of police Srishti Gupta were also present.
