80-year-old man held for sexually assaulting child

Chennai: An 80-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday under the Pocso Act for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Ambattur last week.The girl lives in Ambattur with her parents. As summer vacation was on, they used to leave her at a relative’s house nearby before going to work.While there, the child used to play with the granddaughter of the octogenarian house owner, Chellappan. Police said that last week, Chellappan made the girl sit next to him, and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident, police said.The child told her parents when they returned from work, who then filed a complaint against Chellappan at the Ambattur all women police station. Police suspect that the man has assaulted her multiple times. Chellappan was arrested under the Pocso Act and produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
