Belagavi: Akka Pade police personnel prevented a child marriage in Belagavi and rescued the minor girl. The rescued child was produced before the Child Welfare Committee for further care and counselling. City police commissioner Bhushan Borase praised the timely intervention by the Akka Pade team and appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities to prevent underage marriages.
On April 20, a police force patrolling Vantamuri Colony at night noticed a pavilion erected in front of a house and conducted an investigation. Police interrogation revealed that a groom of Pune origin was marrying a minor girl from here. After questioning the family and checking the marrying girl's Aadhaar card and birth certificate, it was discovered that the girl was 17 years and four months old.
Police on patrol immediately informed inspector of the Women's police station, Dilip Nimbalkar, about the child marriage. As per his instructions, Akka Pade police, along with police from Mal-Maruti station, rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and presented her before the Child Protection Committee.
A case was registered at Belagavi City Women's police station against the girl's father for attempting to force his child into marriage. The team members of Akka Pade, Swapna Gondhali, Saraswati Karigar, and Mallayya Karadi, coordinator of the District Child Protection Unit, Mallesh Kundaragi, participated in the operation.
Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase praised the work of the Akka Pade force and appealed to the public to provide all possible cooperation to the police department to prevent child marriages.
