Mob attacks temple mahant, sevadar
Kanpur: More than three dozen people stormed a temple at Shivkatra turn in Chakeri police station area late on Monday night and attacked the temple mahant and sevadar for objecting to obscene acts in the temple complex.The incident came to light after an FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by the mahant at Krishna Nagar Chowki on Tuesday. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused.According to mahant Jaynarayan Das, a resident of Shekhpur, he served as mahant at the Shri Hanuman Ji temple at Shivkatra Mod for the past three decades. He stated that he was ill last Monday and had handed over the responsibilities of the temple to the sevadar.According to the mahant’s written complaint, a young man and woman from the area were seen visiting the area behind the temple premises for the past one week. The temple’s sevadar grew suspicious and went there to check on them. He found them in a compromising state and objected to such acts. He warned both of them not to engage in such acts within the temple premises after which the man left issuing threats.On Monday night, the accused arrived at the temple premises with 35-40 people armed with sticks and batons and assaulted the mahant and the sevadar.Chakeri police station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra stated that a case was registered on Tuesday based on a written complaint by the mahant and an investigation is underway.
