Madurai: The Madurai district police arrested a man after a 70-year-old woman was injured in a knife attack outside a polling centre at Thirumangalam on Thursday.
Police said Amirthavalli cast her vote at a polling booth in the Govt Higher Secondary School, Melakottai, around 8am. Subsequently, she was waiting nearly 100m from the polling station for her son. At that time, Balamurugan, 28, who was in an inebriated condition, involved in a verbal spat with Marimuthu, 30, with whom he had previous enmity. During the tussle, Balamurugan threw a knife at Marimuthu, but it hit Amirthavalli's leg, resulting in a minor injury. She received treatment at a govt hospital as an outpatient.
The Thirumangalam taluk police registered a case and arrested Balamurugan.
