Mumbai: A power outage hit parts of south Mumbai on Saturday, disrupting electricity supply in areas including Babulnath and neighbourhoods near Mahalaxmi Race Course. The blackout caused considerable inconvenience to residents battling hot and humid weather conditions.
According to sources in BEST, the outage was triggered around 8 pm after the Malabar Hill transformer's 11kV switchgear tripped. Engineers were immediately rushed to the site, and power supply was restored at most places within an hour while outage continued at few places due to intermittent tripping , sources said.
The latest disruption has added to growing complaints from residents across the island city over frequent power cuts this summer. Earlier, on April 15, residents in Sion reported outages lasting up to five hours. In Worli, the situation was more severe, with repeated disruptions over three days, ending in a complete blackout from around 1.20am to 6.30am. Parts of Marine Drive and Marine Lines had also faced darkness after a power feeder tripped.
