KAUR: A 65-year-old farmer hanged himself to death after allegedly hacking his septuagenarian sister-in-law to death at Aravakuruchi in Karur district here on Monday, according to police. The victim was identified as N Vijaya, wife of
Natarajan of Bharathiyar Nagar, and the couple had a son, N Prabhu, 32.
As Natarajan passed away long ago, his younger brother Ramasamy had been the guardian of Prabhu since his early years. Meanwhile, following a domestic quarrel, Ramasamy allegedly murdered his wife R Saraswathi in 1988 following which he was arrested and sent to jail. After returning from prison, he had been residing with Vijaya and her son Prabhu. Vijaya had got Prabhu married to a relative's daughter a few months ago. After their marriage, Prabhu started to live with his wife separately and spent most of his time with his wife's relatives and maternal uncle's family. Stung by loneliness and what the cops called “a sense of possessiveness”, Ramasamy wanted to take revenge on Vijaya who he thought was the sole reason for all these happenings.
Ramasamy entered into an altercation with Vijaya in connection with the issue on Monday. In a fit of rage, he allegedly hacked her to death while she was alone at her house in the morning before hanging himself in the same house. tnn
