Mandia Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly, created as a new seat in the 2023 delimitation exercise. It is located in the Barpeta-Kamrup belt of lower Assam and falls under the Barpeta Lok Sabha segment. The constituency covers a rural agrarian area with communities largely dependent on agriculture and the Brahmaputra river economy. The main political parties in Assam include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). As a newly created constituency, Mandia does not carry a direct 2021 result. The surrounding Barpeta belt in 2021 saw INC and AIUDF hold several seats: Sarukhetri was won by INC's Jakir Hussain Sikdar with 77,045 votes and Baghbar by INC's Sherman Ali Ahmed by 43,433 votes. In 2026, BJP's Badal Chandra Arjya contests against Congress's Abdul Khaleque — who is a prominent Congress leader from Barpeta — in what is expected to be a competitive debut contest for this new constituency. The 2026 Assam Assembly elections will test Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's BJP-led government, which swept to power with a comfortable majority in 2021.
