Mahmora Assembly Election Results 2026

Mahmora Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly. The constituency was known as Mahmara until the official spelling was changed to Mahmora following the final delimitation order of 2023. It is a general (unreserved) seat in Charaideo district, formerly part of Sivasagar district, and falls under the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency. The main political parties in Assam include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,38,108 registered voters, with 1,13,497 valid votes cast. BJP's Jogen Mohan won with 51,282 votes, defeating Congress candidate Suruj Dehingia — who secured 38,147 votes — by a margin of 13,135 votes. The 2016 contest produced the same result: Mohan won with 49,036 votes against Dehingia's 34,711, a margin of 14,325. In 2026, the contest takes a new shape: Suruj Dehingia contests for BJP, while Congress fields Gyandip Mohan — a reversal of party affiliations that gives the 2026 race an unpredictable edge. The 2026 Assam Assembly elections will test Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's BJP-led government, which swept to power with a comfortable majority in 2021. With the opposition Congress-AIUDF combine seeking to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment, every constituency will be a crucial battleground in deciding whether the state returns a second consecutive BJP government.
