Gossaigaon in Assam was won in the assembly elections by Jiron Basumatary of the United People’s Party (Liberal), who defeated Jowel Tudu of the Indian National Congress by 10,343 votes. The constituency is part of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, where UPP(L)’s Joyanta Basumatary defeated Bodoland Peoples Front’s Kampa Borgoyari by 51,583 votes in the 2024 parliamentary election.
The Assam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, 2026, with counting scheduled for May 4.
This year, assembly polls are also scheduled in Kerala and Puducherry on April 9, Tamil Nadu on April 23, and West Bengal in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Results for all states and the Union Territory will be declared on May 4.
