Dibrugarh is an urban assembly constituency in Assam's Dibrugarh district, part of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha area, with high literacy (76per cent) and around 150,000 voters. Prasanta Phukan of BJP remains the MLA, having won in 2021 and holding the seat since 2006 (except briefly in 2001). In 2021, he secured 68,762 votes (60per cent share), defeating INC's Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog (30,757 votes, 27per cent) by 38,005 votes. He previously won 2016 by 27,374 votes. Dibrugarh grapples with urban development needs like traffic congestion, flooding from the Brahmaputra, and infrastructure strain from its commercial hub status (tea, oil, trade). Anti-CAA protests have historically flared here due to its diverse population. Economic priorities include boosting tea industry jobs and addressing youth unemployment in this educated area.
