Chamaria Assembly Election Results 2026

Chamaria Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly, created as a new seat in the 2023 delimitation exercise. It is located in the Barpeta-Bajali belt of lower Assam and falls under the Barpeta Lok Sabha segment. The constituency covers predominantly rural, agrarian communities with a diverse electorate typical of the lower Assam river plains. The main political parties in Assam include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). As a newly created constituency, Chamaria does not carry a direct 2021 result. The Barpeta belt saw a mix of Congress, AIUDF, and BJP results in 2021: Sarukhetri was held by INC's Jakir Hussain Sikdar with 77,045 votes, while BJP held Patacharkuchi with a dominant share. In 2026, BJP fields Md. Nurul Islam while Congress fields Rekibuddin Ahmed for the inaugural contest in Chamaria. The 2026 Assam Assembly elections will test Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's BJP-led government, which swept to power with a comfortable majority in 2021. With the opposition Congress-AIUDF combine seeking to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment, every constituency will be a crucial battleground in deciding whether the state returns a second consecutive BJP government.
