Arakkonam Assembly constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes, is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. The seat has witnessed contests mainly between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and other regional parties over the years, with AIADMK maintaining a notable presence in several election cycles.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s S. Ravi won the seat by securing 85,399 votes. He defeated Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’s J. Gowthama Sannah, who secured 58,230 votes. The margin of victory stood at 27,169 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Arakkonam had a total of 2,19,621 electors, of which 1,65,441 valid votes were polled. AIADMK’s S. Ravi won the seat with 68,176 votes, defeating Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Rajkumar N, who secured 64,015 votes. The margin of victory was 4,161 votes.
In 2011, the constituency had 1,80,053 electors and recorded 1,41,959 valid votes. AIADMK’s S. Ravi registered a comfortable victory with 79,409 votes, defeating Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’s S. Sellapandian, who secured 53,172 votes. The margin of victory was 26,237 votes.
Going further back, in the 1984 Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,34,680 electors, with 1,00,802 valid votes polled. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s V. K. Raju won the seat with 52,657 votes, defeating AIADMK’s M. Vijayasarathi, who secured 46,344 votes. The margin of victory stood at 6,313 votes.
