Chengam Assembly constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes, is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests among parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s M. P. Giri won the seat by securing 1,08,081 votes. He defeated AIADMK’s M. S. Nainakannu, who secured 96,511 votes. The margin of victory stood at 11,570 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Chengam had a total of 2,50,015 electors, of which 2,10,403 valid votes were polled. DMK’s M. P. Giri won the seat with 95,939 votes, defeating AIADMK’s M. Dinagaran, who secured 83,248 votes. The margin of victory was 12,691 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,11,656 electors and recorded 1,78,325 valid votes. DMDK’s T. Suresh (alias Sureshkumar) won the seat with 83,722 votes, defeating Indian National Congress candidate K. Selvaperunthagai, who secured 72,225 votes. The margin of victory stood at 11,497 votes.
