Katpadi Assembly constituency is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has long been associated with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), with senior DMK leader Durai Murugan representing the seat across multiple election cycles.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s Durai Murugan won the seat by securing 85,140 votes. He narrowly defeated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s V. Ramu, who secured 84,394 votes. The margin of victory stood at just 746 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Katpadi had a total of 2,29,868 electors, of which 1,77,870 valid votes were polled. DMK’s Durai Murugan won the seat with 90,534 votes, defeating AIADMK’s S. R. K. Appu, who secured 66,588 votes. The margin of victory was 23,946 votes.
In 2011, the constituency had 1,90,456 electors and recorded 1,51,498 valid votes. DMK’s Durai Murugan secured 75,064 votes to win the seat, defeating AIADMK’s S. R. K. Appu (alias Radhakrishnan S), who secured 72,091 votes. The margin of victory stood at 2,973 votes.
