Tiruppur (South) Assembly constituency is located in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district and falls under the Tiruppur Lok Sabha seat. It was created in 2008 after a delimitation process, dividing Tiruppur constituency into Tiruppur (South) and Tiruppur (North).
As per the 2011 Census, the constituency has a population of 3.49 lakh and is entirely urban in character (100per cent). Scheduled Castes constitute 7.18per cent and Scheduled Tribes 0.08per cent of the population.
Electorally, Tiruppur (South) has evolved into a competitive battleground, with the DMK and AIADMK closely contesting Assembly elections. While the 2021 Assembly poll saw a narrow victory for the DMK, Parliamentary elections have reflected shifting alliance equations, with the CPI-led front performing strongly in 2019 and 2024.
In the 2021 Assembly election, DMK’s K. Selvaraj secured 75,535 votes, defeating AIADMK’s S. Gunasekaran by a margin of 4,709 votes (2.72per cent).
