Avanashi (SC) Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district is part of the Nilgiris (SC) Lok Sabha seat. As per the 2011 Census, the constituency has a population of 3.16 lakh, with a predominantly rural profile (63.83per cent) and 36.17per cent urban residents. Scheduled Castes constitute 22.43per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for 0.08per cent.
Electorally, Avanashi has been a stronghold of the AIADMK in recent Assembly elections, with the party securing a decisive mandate in 2021. While Parliamentary contests have seen comparatively stronger performances from the DMK-led alliance, the Assembly segment has demonstrated clear consolidation in favour of the AIADMK.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, AIADMK’s P. Dhanapal won with 1,17,284 votes, defeating DMK’s Athiyamaan Raju by a commanding margin of 50,902 votes (24.17per cent). Voter turnout stood at 75.79per cent in 2021, compared to 72.9per cent in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
