Vedaranyam is a coastal constituency in Nagapattinam district, famous for its salt pans and historical significance in the freedom struggle. In the 2021 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s O. S. Manian won the seat with 78,719 votes, defeating DMK’s S. K. Vetharathinam, who secured 66,390 votes. The margin of victory was 12,329 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s O. S. Manian won the seat with 60,836 votes, defeating INC’s P. V. Rajendiran, who received 37,838 votes. The margin of victory was 22,998 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s N. V. Kamaraj won the seat with 74,007 votes, defeating PMK’s S. K. Vetharathinam, who secured 63,079 votes. The margin of victory was 10,928 votes.
