Madathukulam Assembly constituency, located in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency was created following the 2008 delimitation of Assembly seats in the state.
The constituency has a predominantly rural demographic profile, with about 69.58 per cent of its population classified as rural and 30.42 per cent urban according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes account for around 23.98 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute about 1.3 per cent.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the seat with C Mahendran securing 84,313 votes. He defeated the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s R. Jayaramakrishnan, who polled 77,875 votes.The AIADMK secured 46.36 per cent of the vote, while the DMK received 42.82 per cent.
Historically, electoral contests in Madathukulam have primarily involved the AIADMK and the DMK, with both parties alternating in terms of dominance since the constituency’s formation. While the AIADMK currently holds the seat in the State Assembly, the DMK has performed strongly in recent parliamentary contests within this segment.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by C Mahendran of the AIADMK, while the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by K. Eswarasamy of the DMK.
