Valparai (SC) Assembly constituency, located in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes and has a mixed demographic profile, with about 62.81 per cent of its population classified as urban and 37.19 per cent rural according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes account for around 32.19 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute about 3.46 per cent.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the seat with T. K. Amulkandasami securing 71,672 votes. He defeated the Communist Party of India’s M. Arumugam, who polled 59,449 votes. In that election, the AIADMK secured 49.37 per cent of the vote while the CPI received 40.95 per cent.
However, the seat is currently vacant following the death of AIADMK MLA TK Amulkandasami in June 2025 after a brief illness. The Valparai Assembly constituency was subsequently declared vacant by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat, and no by-election was declared due to the proximity of the next Assembly election.
Historically, Valparai has seen electoral contests involving multiple parties including the AIADMK, CPI, DMK and the Congress at different times. In recent years, however, the AIADMK has maintained a strong presence in Assembly elections.
