Sulur Assembly constituency in Coimbatore district falls under the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu. According to the 2011 Census, the constituency has a population of 3.41 lakh, with 62.41per cent urban and 37.59 per cent rural residents. Scheduled Castes account for 17.28 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 0.07 per cent of the population.
Electorally, Sulur has exhibited a consistent AIADMK advantage in Assembly elections over the past decade, securing clear victories in 2016 and 2021. However, Parliamentary elections have reflected more fragmented voting patterns, influenced by alliance configurations, with the DMK-led and BJP-led formations showing competitive performances in recent cycles.
As per the 2024 electoral roll, Sulur has 3,24,961 voters across 333 polling stations. In the 2021 Assembly election, AIADMK’s VP Kandasamy won with 1,18,968 votes, defeating DMK’s Premier Selvam (A) Kalichamy M by a margin of 31,932 votes (13.34per cent).
