Manapparai Assembly constituency, located in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Karur Lok Sabha constituency. The seat was created after the 2008 delimitation of constituencies in the state. According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency is largely rural, with about 84.46 per cent of the population living in rural areas and 15.54 per cent in urban areas. Scheduled Castes account for 17.16 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute around 0.07 per cent.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the seat with P Abdul Samad securing 98,077 votes, or 44.23 per cent of the vote share. He defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate R. Chandrasekar, who received 85,834 votes, by a margin of 12,243 votes, or about 5.52 per cent.
Historically, the constituency has seen the AIADMK hold the seat in its early elections after delimitation. R Chandrasekar of the AIADMK won the seat in both the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections. The DMK captured the constituency in the 2021 Assembly election with P. Abdul Samad.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by P. Abdul Samad of the DMK, while the Karur Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by Congress’ S Jothimani.
