Ranipet Assembly constituency is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests mainly between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) over the years.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s R. Gandhi won the seat by securing 1,03,291 votes. He defeated AIADMK’s S. M. Sukumar, who secured 86,793 votes. The margin of victory stood at 16,498 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Ranipet had a total of 2,47,501 electors, of which 1,90,742 valid votes were polled. DMK’s R. Gandhi won the seat with 81,724 votes, defeating AIADMK’s C. Elumalai, who secured 73,828 votes. The margin of victory was 7,896 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,98,641 electors and recorded 1,57,749 valid votes. AIADMK’s A. Mohammed John won the seat with 83,834 votes, defeating DMK’s R. Gandhi, who secured 69,633 votes. The margin of victory stood at 14,201 votes.
