Rishivandiyam Assembly constituency is located in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu and has seen shifting political control over the past decade, with contests involving the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,44,427 electors, with 1,96,697 valid votes polled. DMK’s K Karthikeyan secured victory with 92,607 votes, defeating AIADMK’s Dhandapani K by a margin of 20,503 votes, marking a comfortable win for the party.
Earlier, in 2011, Rishivandiyam had 2,06,830 electors and recorded 1,71,405 valid votes. DMDK’s Vijaykant won the seat with 91,164 votes, defeating Indian National Congress candidate S Sivaraj by 30,795 votes.
The change in party control between 2011 and 2016 reflects the constituency’s responsiveness to broader alliance formations and shifting state-level political currents.
