Oddanchatram Assembly constituency, located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency has a predominantly rural demographic profile, with about 85.97 per cent of its population classified as rural and 14.03 per cent urban according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes account for around 24.33 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute about 0.08 per cent.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with R. Sakkarapani securing 1,09,970 votes. He defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s NP Nataraj, who polled 81,228 votes. The DMK secured 54.51 per cent of the vote, while the AIADMK received 40.26 per cent.
Oddanchatram has long been considered a stronghold of the DMK under R Sakkarapani, who has represented the constituency continuously since 1996. He has won multiple elections from the seat, including in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021, making him one of the longest-serving MLAs in the region and reflecting his enduring political influence in the constituency.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by R Sakkarapani of the DMK, while the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by R Sachithanantham of the CPI(M).
